FA Cup: Wigan Athletic 2-1 Crawley Town highlights

Wigan took their place in the second round of the FA Cup thanks to a hard-fought win over Crawley in a drab match that was illuminated by three high-quality goals.

Crawley took the lead with only 20 minutes gone, Jordan Roberts controlling superbly before hooking a delightful volley over his shoulder and into the corner of the net.

Wigan equalised within 10 minutes, Ivan Toney converting an acrobatic volley of his own from Lee Evans' left-wing cross.

Nick Powell should have put Wigan ahead before the break, only to squander a one-on-one opportunity.

But it mattered not as Evans made it 2-1 with 19 minutes to go.

There looked to be little danger when the Wales international picked the ball up 35 yards from goal.

But after switching the ball to his unfamiliar left foot, he unleashed a vicious strike that flew into the roof of the net before Town goalkeeper Glenn Morris could even move.

To their credit, Crawley never gave up the ghost, but lacked the quality in the final third to reward their 157 travelling fans in the crowd of 3,288.
