Wales Under-21s missed out on an opportunity to close the gap on Romania, after the Group 8 leaders ended with nine men in Bangor.

Romania had the best of the first half in the European Championship qualifier.

But Razvan Marin was shown a second yellow card on 72 minutes for diving, then George Puscas saw red for an elbow on Jack Evans who was holding him back.

Wales could not take advantage though, having earlier wasted good chances from Evans, Harry Wilson and Cameron Coxe.

With Wales having lost 4-0 at home to Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday, Robert Page's men are fourth in Group 8 and trail undefeated Romania by five points.

Wales Under-21 manager Robert Page told BBC Sport Wales: "It did get lively before the end but you expect that against Romania... I was pleased we matched them physically we know we could hurt them when the game got stretched.

"It did get tasty towards the end and I thought the decisions were right. Jack has done a foul on the halfway line but you can't tolerate what he did, You can't throw two elbows, miss him with the first and try and do him again.

"The red card was justified and we knew it was going to get like that.

"It always disappoints me when you see [diving]. The wide man [Marin] goes down and rolls five times and trying to get players booked.

"It is not nice but part of football."
