Plymouth Argyle 2-0 Northampton Town

  • Published

Plymouth Argyle defender Sonny Bradley scored twice as Derek Adams' side beat League One basement rivals Northampton Town at Home Park.

Both Bradley goals were headers from set-pieces as the hosts bounced back from Saturday's 4-0 defeat against Oxford.

At the other end, Joel Grant's powerful 12th-minute angled effort looked destined for goal but was deflected just wide by Brendon Moloney.

David Fox provided a superb cross from wide on the right some 40 yards out for an unmarked Bradley to put the Pilgrims 1-0 up after 31 minutes.

Bradley doubled his tally, stooping to head home at the far post from a Graham Carey free-kick from seven minutes after the break.

The towering central defender came close to completing his hat-trick from a Carey cross minutes later but his header ran down the outside of the side netting.

Cobblers substitute Dean Bowditch went close to scoring going into the final moments.

Chris Long missed a golden opportunity to reduce the deficit when he went through one-on-one with Argyle's on-loan Norwich City goalkeeper Remi Matthews, firing just wide.
