Plymouth Argyle manager Derek Adams has described their League One game at Portsmouth as 'rubbish'.

The Pilgrims lost 1-0 in a game of few chances, with goalkeeper Remi Matthews making a mistake to allow Kai Naismith to score the only goal.

The two sides have faced each other seven times during Adams' reign.

"From my point of view it's the worst game that I've been involved in between Portsmouth and Plymouth, it was rubbish," Adams told BBC Radio Devon.

Plymouth were pipped to the League Two title by Pompey last season, having knocked them out of the League Two play-offs with a last-minute goal at Home Park the season before.

"We were the better team in the first half, second half we pushed on and we went for it, but overall as a spectacle it wasn't great," said Adams.

To make matters worse, Plymouth's goalkeeping injury problems continued when Matthews hurt his leg in a clash with Naismith late in the the game.

Matthews is on an emergency loan from Norwich City, with the club's three other senior goalkeepers, and youth-team stopper Michael Cooper, all out of action.

"He's got a big lump on his shin, following through on the player, he's got a bit of bruising there as well," added Adams.

"It's a major concern because he wasn't able to put much pressure on it."
