Michy Batshuayi came on as an 81st-minute substitute for Chelsea against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday

Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi scored twice to help the club's under-21s beat MK Dons 4-0 in the Checkatrade Trophy - less than a day after facing Atletico Madrid in the Champions League

The 24-year-old, who cost £33m when the Blues signed him in the summer of 2016, scored midway through the first half.

His second came 20 minutes later as he got on the end of a Kenedy cross.

Callum Hudson-Odoi got a third just before half-time and Charly Musonda added number four.

The lure of three full internationals and more than £40m of talent was not enough to bring in the crowds - there were 28,951 empty seats at Stadium MK

Of the 16 Premier League and Championship academy sides that entered the competition, just two remain.

Chelsea join Leicester City, who played six overage players including Premier League regulars Kelechi Iheanacho and Leonardo Ulloa as they beat Scunthorpe 2-1 to progress on Tuesday.

The last 16 was completed by Blackpool and Peterborough United.

Blackpool won 5-4 on penalties at home to Mansfield after Callum Butcher equalised in the 89th minute for the Stags following Kelvin Mellor's first-half opener.

Meanwhile, Posh were 2-0 winners over League One rivals Southend United thanks to goals from Gwion Edwards and Marcus Maddison.
