Wigan Athletic 0-0 Peterborough United

Wigan Athletic extended their lead at the top of League One to three points but had to settle for a goalless draw against Peterborough - their third home stalemate in a row.

Despite throwing on new signing James Vaughan 24 hours after his arrival from Championship strugglers Sunderland in the second half, the Latics were unable to break down a resolute Posh rearguard.

Vaughan had a couple of half chances, but Posh goalkeeper Jonathan Bond was equal to his efforts.

Centre-back Dan Burn - voted the League One player of the month for December - got himself forward only to see a shot blocked, with Nick Powell seeing another goal-bound strike headed to safety by Steven Taylor.

At the other end, Posh remained a real threat on the counter, with Jack Marriott forcing a couple of decent saves from Christian Walton - keeping his seventh league clean sheet in a row.

And when Walton was eventually beaten by Marriott in stoppage-time, the flag had long been up on the near side and the effort was chalked off.
