Joe Garner's ninth goal of the season sealed a point for Ipswich

Struggling Bolton remain just one point clear of the bottom three after Ipswich came from behind to claim a draw.

Gary Madine scored his 10th goal of the season after turning in Antonee Robinson's cross from the left.

Ipswich then responded when David McGoldrick set up Joe Garner to tap into an empty net.

Martyn Waghorn almost snatched victory for Mick McCarthy's side after slamming a shot against the crossbar in the final minute.

Josh Vela spurned an early chance for Bolton after wriggling through the Ipswich defence, but Bartosz Białkowski stood firm to push Vela's toe-poked effort away.

David Wheater thought he had broken the deadlock in the first half as he curled a shot into the bottom corner, but the referee had stopped play for a foul by Will Buckley.

Ipswich generally dominated a low-quality game but are now without a win in their last four league away games.

Bolton have failed to beat Ipswich in their last nine meetings - a run dating back to 2002 - but their point has lifted them up to 20th place.

Bolton boss Phil Parkinson:

"Overall, it was a good performance considering we lost Mark Beevers (illness) on the morning of the game. We also asked Karl Henry to play after only two days of training. Maybe that cost us with some fatigue in the second half.

"It's always disappointing not to take three points when you are ahead. However, with the disruption we have had, it is a decent point for us. Ipswich are a good side and have some good attacking players. Their goal summed up the quality they have in the final third.

"It was the one moment where they really cut us open. And I couldn't ask for any more in how the lads applied themselves."

Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy:

"Bolton have a lot of Championship experience in their team and they are on a resurgence. I have never had an easy game here, and at the end of it I will take the point.

"Bolton are no mugs and they didn't make it easy for us. They are a big, powerful team.

"We actually played great football from 1-0 down - a football team turned up then and we played well. But it was probably the worst game, certainly the worst first half, I have seen all season, possibly for a long time. We had to scrap it out because it was a tough old game. Both teams worked hard to stop each other playing."
