Reading and Arsenal played out a goalless draw in Women's Super League One in front of the new England head coach Phil Neville at Adams Park.

The result saw both sides lose ground on their rivals and came in stark contrast to Arsenal's thrilling 3-2 League Cup semi-final win at Reading on the same ground two weeks previously.

Both keepers produced a number of fine saves in an even contest.

Arsenal, in fourth, are now 10 points adrift of leaders Manchester City.

Reading remain sixth, having moved above Sunderland on goal difference but been leapfrogged by Birmingham City, who were 3-0 winners over Yeovil Town.

Reading manager Kelly Chambers:

"It was a fantastic performance. We made changes and did some work in training, but for the information that the girls were given and in such a short space of time, to deliver that was fantastic.

"We had moments in the game where we controlled the game, we ran the game, and we should have scored as well.

"I think there are some exciting young players within our ranks. They need to be looked at for the national team. I'm hoping Phil Neville has seen the quality of the performance that we put out this afternoon."

Arsenal manager Joe Montemurro:

"It is really important that we are being more than competitive and are working hard for the shirt - competition and being a team that is competitive should be the minimum.

"On the second-half performance, I feel we dropped two points.

"We created enough to finish the game off - it lacked an important part of finishing."
