Newcastle have signed Brazilian winger Kenedy from Chelsea on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old, who can also play as a left-back, has made just five appearances for the senior team this season, in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

He will be ineligible to play against Chelsea in the FA Cup fourth round tie on Sunday, but could make his Magpies debut against Burnley on 31 January.

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez said he had pursued Kenedy since the summer.

"The reason we are interested is that he can play in several positions," said Benitez. "He has a great left foot and good energy".

Kenedy joined Chelsea in 2015 from Fluminense and spent four months on loan at Watford last season.

"I'm so happy with this opportunity at Newcastle," said the Brazilian. "They've opened the door to me to come here, show my potential and come and play."

Kenedy was given a formal warning by the Football Association in August over social media comments made on a pre-season tour of China.
