Derry City midfielder Rory Hale scored his first goal for the club in the 2-1 win over Bohemians

Derry City got back to winning ways with a deserved 2-1 victory away to Bohemians on Friday night.

Two goals in the space of three first-half minutes from Rory Hale and Rory Patterson won the game for the Candystripes.

Bohs got a goal back through substitute JJ Lunney in the 86th minute.

Hale's 22nd minute opener was a fine finish from a super Aaron McEneff pass, while Patterson swept home from close range after controlling Hale's shot.

The victory was a first win in four league outings for Kenny Shiels' men, who went into the game having lost five of their previous six Premier Division matches.

They remain in fourth place in the table, but are now three points ahead of fifth-placed St Pat's Athletic.

Great pass

Hale's opening goal was a special one for the midfielder as it was his first in a Derry City short.

He owed much to a fantastic piece of skill from McEneff, who turned cleverly and played a great pass to Hale who beat home goalkeeper Shane Supple.

Patterson doubled the lead in the 25th minute with what was his 93rd goal for the club.

A corner was cleared and fell to Hale, whose shot landed at the feet of Patterson and the striker made no mistake for the second goal.

It looked like finishing 2-0 until Lunney came off the bench to fire into the bottom corner four minutes from time after an Eoghan Stokes pass.

It set up a tense finish but Derry ran out deserved winners.
