Kamo Mokotjo (centre) celebrates his late strike in Brentford's 4-2 win at Southend

Marcus Forss and Julian Jeanvier scored on their debuts as Brentford saw off Southend in a Carabao Cup thriller.

Teenager Forss latched on to Josh Clarke's through ball to put the Bees ahead just before half-time.

Southend levelled as Theo Robinson's deflected effort looped over Bees keeper Luke Daniels, but Jeanvier soon prodded Brentford back in front.

Said Benrahma made it 3-1 before Shawn McCoulsky's 25-yarder, only for Kamo Mokotjo to drill home and seal it.

The Bees were dominant for large parts of the game and only a string of saves from Southend keeper Mark Oxley kept the hosts in it.

But, after McCoulsky's rocket reduced the deficit to 3-2, Southend came within inches of levelling when a Michael Klass header hit the bar.

The defeat, however, means United's wait for an EFL Cup win will enter a ninth year - Southend have not won a game in the competition since 2010.
