Middlesbrough 2-1 Rochdale: Championship side maintain unbeaten start to season
- Published
Middlesbrough maintained their unbeaten start to the season as they held on to beat Rochdale and reach the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Boro boss Tony Pulis made 10 changes, with one eye on Friday's top-of-the-table Championship clash with Leeds.
Marvin Johnson and on-loan West Ham striker Jordan Hugill put Boro 2-0 up.
Ryan Delaney halved the deficit late on for the League One side and almost forced penalties when an effort was cleared off the line.
Neither side carried much threat in the first half, but Boro took the lead just before the break with Johnson driving in the rebound after Hugill's header hit the post.
Hugill doubled the lead with a close-range header, his first goal for Boro.
