Scunthorpe United have appointed former Bradford City and Motherwell boss Stuart McCall as manager, following the sacking of Nick Daws last week.

McCall takes over at Glanford Park with the Iron placed 18th in League One after five games.

The 54-year-old has been out of work since he was sacked as Bradford City boss in February 2018.

He will be joined by former Bantams assistant Kenny Black, while assistant Andy Dawson will remain on the staff.

In his second spell as Bradford manager, McCall took the Bantams to the 2017 League One play-off final, but lost 1-0 to Millwall at Wembley.

Chairman Peter Swann said Daws' replacement would be someone with experienced and former Scotland international McCall has managed 420 games in spells at the Bantams, Motherwell and Rangers.

The Iron's 2-2 draw with unbeaten Barnsley on Saturday came on the back of two heavy defeats, by Sunderland and Fleetwood, which preceded Daws' exit.

McCall's first game in charge will be the trip to Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
