Women's Super League: Arsenal 5-0 Liverpool highlights

Vivianne Miedema scored a hat-trick as Arsenal Women began the new Women's Super League season with a 5-0 thrashing of Liverpool Women.

The Netherlands international striker tucked home Katie McCabe's cross from six yards to give Arsenal the lead.

She then set up Lisa Evans to fire in the second and was again the architect for Kim Little to slot in the third.

Miedema scuffed in the fourth before half-time and completed her treble by driving in from a free-kick late on.

It was the first hat-trick scored by an Arsenal player in the WSL since Gunners and England legend Kelly Smith in September 2014.

Liverpool briefly threatened to get back into the contest at 2-0 down but Christie Murray's fierce 20-yard drive was brilliantly tipped over the bar by goalkeeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin.

But Arsenal could have also scored further goals, with Miedema the main threat as she twice saw efforts deflected over the bar, while Jordan Nobbs fired across the face of goal.
