Manager Julian Nagelsmann was beaten by his future employers as Hoffenheim lost 2-1 at home to RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.

The 31-year-old announced in June that he would take charge of Leipzig from the start of the 2019-20 season.

Youssuf Poulsen struck twice for the visitors in the second half, with ex-Leicester striker Andrej Kramaric netting a late consolation penalty.

Leipzig moved up to sixth, while Hoffenheim are 10th after six games.

Rather than Leipzig appointing another manager until Naglesmann's arrival, sporting director Ralf Rangnick is performing both roles.

Rangnick took Hoffenheim from the third division to the top flight in his four and a half years as coach before leaving in 2011.

He said: "Not too many teams win here in Hoffenheim, which is why this away win is especially good.

"It was crucial we took the lead. We got our two goals when the game was end to end.

"We did have a lot of good chances in the first 45 minutes, but in the second half we had clear-cut chances, unlike Hoffenheim. Therefore on balance we deserved to win the match."
