Injured Joe Ledley and Tom Lockyer out of Wales squad against Spain and Republic

Wales manager Ryan Giggs has made two changes to a 25-man squad for the friendly against Spain on 11 October and the Nations League match with Republic of Ireland five days later.

Joe Ledley and Tom Lockyer have withdrawn injured, with Jazz Richards and George Thomas replacing them.

Leicester City forward Thomas, 21, could win his first competitive cap after impressing for the Under-21s.

Wales play Spain at the Principality Stadium and the Republic in Dublin.

Derby County's 77-cap midfielder Ledley, 31, was an unused substitute in Wales' 4-1 win over the Republic in their Nations League opener in Cardiff on 6 September, as was Bristol Rovers defender Lockyer, 23.

Cardiff full-back Richards, 27, won the last of his 13 Wales caps in the World Cup qualifier against Austria in September 2017.

Thomas scored twice for Wales Under-21s against Liechtenstein last month and is currently on loan at Scunthorpe United.

Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale has been included despite missing the midweek Champions League defeat at CSKA Moscow through injury, although the 29-year-old returned to training with his club on Thursday.

"He had a little groin strain. The scan has come back clear and he expects to play on the weekend," Giggs confirmed.

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who was given special dispensation to miss his side's Europa League game with Qarabag on Thursday as his wife is expecting twins, is also included.

Giggs does not expect Ramsey's contract stand-off with Arsenal to affect his Wales form.

"What I have seen is a fantastic professional. I expect the same. What's going on at his club didn't really impact on when we met up with us so I expect the same," Giggs added.

"It's a fantastic game to be involved in but five days later we have the Nations League, which is obviously more important as there's points available.

"It's getting the balance right for the game against the Republic and for a game everyone will want to be involved in. The more important game is Tuesday but I have to recognise all the players will want to be involved in what is a fantastic occasion."

The friendly against Spain will be the first time Wales have played at the Principality Stadium since March 2011 when they lost 2-0 to England.

"It's great. The experience I had against Ireland at Cardiff City Stadium was fantastic but we felt it was a good opportunity to play in a bigger stadium," Giggs said.

"A lot of the players wouldn't have played at the Principality. A bigger crowd, a fantastic occasion and a stadium where I've got so many happy memories."

Wales have not faced Spain since a 3-0 win in a World Cup qualifier at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground in April 1985, in which Mark Hughes scored with a spectacular scissor kick.

Spain changes

Diego Costa is absent from the Spain squad with a thigh injury sustained in Atletico Madrid's win over Club Brugge in the Champions League.

Real Madrid pair Dani Carvajal and Isco are also ruled out, as is Athletic Bilbao defender Inigo Martinez.

Uncapped Jonny Otto of Wolverhampton Wanderers, on loan from Atletico Madrid, is called up by Spain manager Luis Enrique, who has left out World Cup pick Jordi Alba once again.

Marca Bartra (Real Betis), Koke (Atletico Madrid) and Paco Alcacer (Borussia Dortmund) are recalled to the squad.
