Birmingham lost ground in the Women's Super League title race as they were beaten by Bristol City in Blues boss Marc Skinner's final game in charge.

Skinner, 35, is expected to take up the vacant managerial position at top American club Orlando Pride.

Blues were unable to give him a winning send-off as Gemma Evans' first-half header earned the visitors victory.

The hosts' best effort came when Emma Follis' shot was pushed wide by Sophie Baggaley before the interval.

Fourth-placed Birmingham began the day five points behind leaders Arsenal, but could not capitalise on the Gunners' loss to Chelsea earlier on Sunday.

Perhaps stung by the impending departure of Skinner - who took Blues to the FA Cup final in 2017, and two successive top-five WSL finishes - they turned in a lacklustre display against the Vixens.

Follis' strike was the only time Baggaley was truly troubled and Bristol City could have won by more if not for Blues keeper Hannah Hampton's double save to deny Rosella Ayane and Lucy Graham.
