Everton rejected an improved offer of £26.2m from Paris St-Germain for Idrissa Gueye as Yannick Bolasie joined Anderlecht on loan.

French champions PSG had an initial bid of £21.5m turned down by the Premier League club for 29-year-old midfielder Gueye earlier on Thursday.

Bolasie, who spent the first half of the season on loan at Aston Villa, joins Anderlecht until the summer.

He made 21 appearances for Villa before cutting his loan short this month.

Manager Marco Silva had previously stated there was no money available to buy players unless Everton recoup funds in player sales.

A move for 25-year-old Belgium forward Michy Batshuayi had been complicated by his Chelsea team-mate Kurt Zouma's loan at the club.

Because Premier League clubs are not allowed to loan more than one player from the same club, any deal for Batshuayi would have needed to be on a permanent basis and would cost around £35m.

Winger Bolasie, 29, had hoped to rekindle his Everton career - which had been interrupted by a serious knee injury - on his return from Villa Park.

But the Merseysiders were happy to let him leave on loan again before the close of the transfer window.
