Brentford hit back on three occasions to earn a draw which kept Derby County outside the Championship play-off places.

A frantic and thrilling first half saw the Rams lead through a Harry Wilson strike only for Julian Jeanvier to level with a half-volley.

Jayden Bogle's first Rams goal, after a mazy run and a stylish finish, restored the lead but the Bees made it 2-2 when Neal Maupay slid the ball in at the far post after a sweeping move.

Another sweet Wilson strike seemed to have earned victory for the visitors, but Said Benrahama rescued a point.

The result means the Rams remain seventh after a five-game unbeaten run, but miss out on moving level on points with sixth-placed Bristol City, who drew with Wigan.

However, Frank Lampard's side have won only two of those matches and will rue a missed opportunity at Griffin Park.

After four goals in a breathless 18-minute first half-spell, the match settled and the chances became rarer.

Mason Mount came closest to a fifth goal of the afternoon when his strike hit the woodwork.

But Wilson's second of the game, following a fine Fikayo Tomori pass, did put Derby ahead.

Tom Lawrence wasted a great opportunity to make it 4-2 and that missed proved costly when Benrahma poked in the home side's third equaliser.

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank told BBC Radio London:

"Some parts of the game was brilliant, especially the second goal I enjoyed that a lot.

"I thought the character in the team was brilliant coming from behind three times. I think we had a spell of 25 to 30 minutes in the second-half where we absolutely dominated the game. But we need to score and take our chances, if we got 3-2 up I'm 100 percent sure that we win that game.

"I'm not satisfied that we conceded three goals and also missed a couple of chances. We need to do better and we need to emotionally stay in the game, no matter what happens."

Derby County manager Frank Lampard told BBC Radio Derby:

"We should have won, probably on chances. We had the better chances, we hit the post.

"The penalty is the most frustrating thing you would ever see. It's a clear penalty. I don't know how the referee gets it wrong, all the Brentford players knew.

"That loses us the two points. I have no idea why he didn't give it.

"If you score three goals away from home you expect to win the game, but at the same time we should have won the game."
