Livingston 0-1 Dundee: Kenny Miller goal gives visitors win
- Published
Relegated Dundee ended a run of 10 straight defeats with victory at Livingston in their penultimate match of the season.
Former Livi player-manager Kenny Miller was injured in the act of scoring Dundee's opener but was able to carry on until the second half.
Steven Lawless, Scott Pittman and Craig Sibbald threatened for the hosts.
But they could not get level and will finish ninth in their first season back in Scotland's top flight.
Motherwell, with a four-point advantage, can no longer be usurped by Gary Holt's side while Dundee record a win in the Premiership for just a fifth time this term, their last victory also coming against Livingston.
Miller shows his class
Miller ran on to Andrew Nelson's pass to lift the ball over the advancing Liam Kelly and was accidentally caught by the goalkeeper as the shot trickled into the net.
The veteran striker pulled up in pain and was treated at the side of the pitch as play continued.
But the former Scotland forward, who is under contract with Dundee until the end of next season, was still able to show his class when he returned to the fray to lead the line for Jim McIntyre's side.
A superb turn away from his marker in his own half instigated another Dundee attack that ended with Cammy Kerr being foiled by the Livi defence.
Ryan Nelson tested Kelly before half-time and Martin Woods curved a shot wide for the visitors afterwards before substitute Scott Wright had an effort saved when clean through.
Livingston huffed and puffed but could not find the necessary composure in the final third to really trouble Seny Dieng.
Lawless and Pittman fired into the keeper's grasp and Lawless lifted another effort over before sending a further strike wide in the second period.
And Sibbald's late effort was gathered by Dieng to confirm Dundee's win.
Livi lack clinical finish - analysis

It is amazing how football changes. Kenny Miller began the season as Livingston player-manager but this afternoon returned to the Tony Macaroni to score the winner for relegated Dundee.
Livingston were easier on the eye with more controlled possession and a touch more creativity. The only thing lacking was a clinical finish.
The home side's work, though, had already been complete weeks ago as they secured their top-flight status for next season.
Dundee manager Jim McIntyre said prior to the match, which some deemed meaningless, that personal pride was at stake, not only for him, but also for his players to end their losing run. But this was too little too late, with goalkeeper Seny Dieng enjoying his first clean sheet in his 18 appearances since joining on loan from QPR in January.
Dundee had failed to score in seven of their past nine games but one was enough in West Lothian.
'Torture to watch' - reaction
Livingston head coach Gary Holt: "I question - and I've even questioned them there - their desire, their hunger to go and prove that they want to play for this club because that's not acceptable. It was torture, to be honest, to watch.
"I know how well they've done but we've still got to be brave on the pitch, got to take responsibility, go and make things happen."
Dundee manager Jim McIntyre: "It was a scrappy game. The one moment of quality was a brilliant ball from Andrew Nelson and a great finish from Kenny Miller.
"There's a lot of gutted boys in that dressing room from how the season's panned out. None more so than myself. It was all about trying to win and restore a wee bit of pride."
