Reading have signed Lucas Joao from Sheffield Wednesday for an undisclosed fee and brought in keeper Rafael Cabral Barbosa and Monaco midfielder Pele.

Striker Joao, 25, has agreed a four-year deal with the Royals while Rafael, 29, has penned a three-year contract.

The Brazilian, who has won three caps for his country, joins on a free transfer after leaving Sampdoria.

Pele, 27, featured nine times during a stint at Nottingham Forest earlier this year and makes a season-long loan move.

The Portugal-born player, whose full name is Judilson Mamadu Tuncara Gomes, started his club career with Portuguese side Belenenses and is a Guinea-Bissau international.

He had spells in Italy with Genoa and AC Milan - but never played for either side - and spent time at Rio Ave before joining Monaco on a three-year deal last summer.

Former Santos and Napoli man Rafael made four appearances during a year with Sampdoria before the Italian Serie A side cancelled his deal by mutual consent to allow him to make the move to Berkshire.

Portugal international Joao scored against the Royals in the Owls' Championship opening-day victory at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday.

He scored 29 goals in 128 appearances during four years at Hillsborough, having joined Wednesday from Portuguese side Nacional.
