David Bates, Massimo Luongo and Jacob Murphy - Sheffield Wednesday made a trio of signings on deadline day

Sheffield Wednesday have signed Massimo Luongo from Queens Park Rangers for an undisclosed fee and loaned Newcastle's Jacob Murphy and Hamburg's David Bates.

Australia midfielder Luongo, 26, scored 10 goals in 152 appearances during his time at the Rs after leaving Swindon.

Winger Murphy, 24, joined Newcastle in 2017 and spent the second half of last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion.

Centre-half Bates, 22, left Scottish side Rangers for Hamburg in 2018 and played 28 games last season.

All three players will join an Owls side currently under the caretaker control of Lee Bullen, following Steve Bruce's departure to Newcastle.

Luongo was a regular at Loftus Road while Scotland international Bates, who played 28 games for Rangers before his move to Germany, gained his first cap in November 2018.

Murphy has played for England Under-21s and has made 40 appearances for his Premier League parent club since a £12m transfer from Norwich City.

But he featured in just nine league games last season before joining the Baggies and helping them reach the Championship play-off semi-finals.
