Davide Zappacosta: Chelsea defender joins Roma on loan
- Published
Chelsea right-back Davide Zappacosta has joined Roma on an initial six-month loan.
As part of the deal there is the option to extend the loan until the end of the season.
Chelsea said he has also signed a one-year contract extension with the Blues until June 2022.
"I am pleased to join Roma, after an experience overseas that helped me progress as both a player and a person," Zappacosta, 27, said.
"Being able to play for a great club like this is a huge motivation. I cannot wait to start training."
The Italy international joined Chelsea from Torino on a four-year deal for £23m in 2017.
But after 22 appearances in the Premier League in his first season he only played four times in 2018-19. He had not made an appearance for Chelsea this season.
Fellow defenders David Luiz and Gary Cahill have already left Stamford Bridge this summer.
