Port Vale have completed two signings in one day by bringing in free-agent defender Shaun Brisley on a one-year contract, as well as young Nottingham Forest midfielder Jake Taylor on loan.

Brisley, 29, had been without a club since being released by Notts County at the end of last season.

He has made 370 career appearances for seven clubs, including Macclesfield, Peterborough and Carlisle.

Forest Academy product Taylor, 19, was training with Vale this summer.

"We know all about him," said Vale boss John Askey. "He impressed us during training here. He's young and eager to get some experience in men's football. This is his first move from Nottingham Forest.

"Shaun's had past experience. He could be ideal for us, because if we brought in another young defender the back four could end up being too young."

League Two club Vale, who have lost just once in five games this season, have also been linked with striker Jordan Archer following Bury's demise this week.
