Bristol Rovers 0-2 Bolton Wanderers: Keith Hill's Trotters earn first win of season

Luke Murphy's opening goal at the Memorial Stadium helped triple Bolton's away league goal haul for the season

Bolton Wanderers claimed their first League One victory of the season at the 12th attempt, winning 2-0 at Bristol Rovers.

Luke Murphy rounded off a passing move to put the visitors ahead after 15 minutes with only Bolton's second away goal of the campaign.

Veteran striker Daryl Murphy then ran onto a through-ball to double the lead after 68 minutes to earn the Trotters their first win since a 2-1 victory at QPR on 30 March, prior to being relegated from the Championship and then subsequently going into administration.

Manager Keith Hill told BBC Radio Manchester: "We got a deserved result, not just from tonight's performance, but for the effort the players have put since we all came together.

"There's not been one moan or groan from the players. We've known it's been difficult for us to get results, and in adversity we've done really well tonight."

After a 12-point deduction for going into administration, they are still only on -5 points, 18 adrift of safety.

Bolton had previously picked up four points in 11 games, having started the season with only three contracted senior outfield players.

They lost four successive league games by five-goal margins in August and September, although results have improved since an influx of new signings before the end of the summer transfer window.

And a first win, after draws in three of their previous five league games, will serve as a major confidence boost for Wanderers.

Rovers, who slipped to their first home league loss of the season, came closest to a goal when Ed Upson's free-kick hit the crossbar.
