Real Madrid cruised past Eibar to remain level on points with Barcelona at the top of La Liga.

Karim Benzema opened the scoring before Sergio Ramos doubled the visitors' lead from the penalty spot.

Benzema fired in another penalty nine minutes later, with Federico Valverde making it 4-0 in the second half.

Only goal difference separates Real from leaders Barca, who beat Celta Vigo 4-1 in Saturday's late game, as Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick.

Messi's three goals included two wonderful free-kicks to add to an earlier penalty, with Sergio Busquets scoring the fourth.

Benzema's double for Real lifted him to sixth on the club's all-time La Liga goals list, surpassing legendary Hungarian striker Ferenc Puskás.

The Frenchman, who scored twice in Wednesday's 6-0 Champions League win over Galatasaray, broke the deadlock after the hosts had failed to clear Valverde's blocked effort.

Ramos then drilled home Real's first penalty after former Chelsea winger Eden Hazard had been brought down by Pablo de Blasis.

Benzema made it 3-0 from the spot following a foul on Lucas Vázquez, before Valverde finished off a flowing move to put the seal on another comprehensive win.
