Granit Xhaka (number 10) and other Switzerland players celebrate qualifying for Euro 2020

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka was among the scorers as Switzerland beat Gibraltar 6-1 to qualify for Euro 2020.

He slotted home his side's sixth as the Swiss topped Group D, ahead of Denmark, who ended up second after a 1-1 draw with the Republic of Ireland.

Xhaka has not played for Arsenal since an angry altercation with fans led to him being stripped of the captaincy.

Cedric Itten (two), Ruben Vargas, Christian Fassnacht and Loris Benito also scored for Switzerland.

The victory left the Swiss, ranked 13th in the world, on 17 points from their eight qualifying matches, one ahead of Denmark, while the Irish will now have to take part in a play-off in March as they look to qualify.

Gibraltar's goal came from Reece Styche, only their third in qualifying, as they finished their campaign with eight defeats from their eight matches.

Xhaka, 27, was involved in a confrontation with Arsenal fans during the Gunners' 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace at Emirates Stadium on 27 October and was stripped of the captaincy a week later.
