Bristol City midfielder Sammie Szmodics has joined League One Peterborough on loan until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old has only played four games for the Championship side since a free transfer move from Colchester United last summer.

Szmodics made 162 appearances for Colchester, scoring 38 goals, in his six years with the League Two club.

"My ultimate goal at the minute is to get Posh back to the Championship," Szmodics told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"I'm looking to use this as a stepping stone to really get my football going again and get back into the Bristol team next season."

Meanwhile, Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson has said forward Marcus Maddison is no longer part of his plans.

Two Championship clubs, including Charlton, have now had bids accepted for the 26-year-old, who is yet to agree personal terms on a move.

"I'm at this point putting closure on the Marcus Maddison situation and simply, whether he goes or not, he's not part of the plans going forward," Ferguson said.

"I think that everyone feels the same now, that - no disrespect to Marcus - it's the correct time for him to move on and the football club to move on."
