Walsall assistant boss Marcus Stewart has left the club by mutual consent.

The ex-Bristol Rovers and Huddersfield striker, 47, joined as assistant to Darrell Clarke in the summer of 2019.

However, prior to the shutdown of football during the coronavirus crisis, Stewart had travelled every day from Bristol and has decided to spend more time with his family.

"During this time I've realised what I'm sacrificing and want to spend more time with my family," he said.

"I would also like to say a big thank you to the supporters who have been fantastic to me during my time at the club.

"I wish the club all the best for the remainder of this season and in the future."

Before football's suspension, Walsall were 14th in League Two and 11 points off the play-off places with 10 games remaining.

"We would like to thank Marcus for his hard work and dedication during his time at the Banks's Stadium and wish him all the best for the future," a club statement said., external
