Jim Duffy is about to embark on his third season in charge at Dumbarton

Dumbarton say manager Jim Duffy has been released from hospital after suffering a heart attack.

The 61-year-old former Morton and Dundee player was treated over the weekend after falling ill.

Duffy is set to take charge of his third season at the League One club, having previously managed the likes of Hibernian and Dundee.

"We are glad to advise that Jim has returned home to continue his recovery," Dumbarton tweeted., external

"We continue to wish him a full and speedy recovery."

Chairman John Steele said the reaction to the news "shows how popular Jim is - not only at Dumbarton, but across Scottish football and beyond".

He added: "Once Jim has made a full recovery, we feel absolutely sure we will see him back on the training pitch and in the dugout - and we look forward to that happening."
