Man City 'Centurions' v Liverpool 'Incredibles' - who made your team?
- Published
They are two of the greatest teams to grace the Premier League - Pep Guardiola's Manchester City side of 2017-18 and Jurgen Klopp's current Liverpool side.
But if there were only 11 spots available, who would you choose from a combination of the two squads?
This was the tough task we set you before the meeting between the recently-deposed and newly-confirmed English champions on Thursday.
As a reminder of what you were selecting from, the 2017-18 City side became the first team to amass more than 100 points in the Premier League, won the competition by the biggest points total (19), recorded the most wins (32), and scored the most goals (106).
Liverpool are in a strong position to break three of those records this season, with a points haul of 107 still possible, a current lead of 23 points over City, and the chance to end up with 35 wins - although their haul of 70 goals so far means reaching City's tally is unlikely in their final seven games.
And so the team you selected...
It is split seven-four in favour of Klopp's side, with four of the back five all Reds, including the player who featured most in your XIs - centre-back Virgil van Dijk.
Vincent Kompany is the lone defensive City man, alongside the aforementioned Dutchman, full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold (your third most popular pick), Andy Robertson and goalkeeper Alisson.
The midfield is more of a City affair, with the second-most picked player Kevin de Bruyne accompanying team-mate David Silva and Liverpool's Jordan Henderson.
And is there a more potent attack than one formed of Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, and City's Sergio Aguero?
The players closest to muscling their way into the side were Brazilian midfielders Fabinho (Liverpool) and Fernandinho (City).
These results were accurate as of 21:00 BST on Wednesday 1 July.
Youi can still pick a team and share it on Twitter using the hashtag #bbcfootball, but your selections will not count towards the final result.
