Kovac was Croatia manager between 2013 and 2015
Former Bayern Munich and Croatia manager Niko Kovac has been named the new Monaco boss.
Robert Moreno was sacked after only seven months in charge of the Ligue 1 club on Sunday.
Kovac, 48, won the German league and cup double with Bayern in the 2018-19 season but left in November 2019.
"Niko is recognised for his capacity to obtain very good results and the progression of young talents," said Monaco vice-president Oleg Petrov.
Moreno took over last December when Monaco were seventh in the table - they eventually finished ninth when the season was halted early because of the coronavirus pandemic.
