Lawrence Shankland, who has two Scotland caps, has only featured in one game for Dundee United this season

Dundee United striker Lawrence Shankland will miss Scotland's forthcoming Nations League double-header with an ankle injury.

Shankland has not played for four weeks and was still not fit enough to be involved in United's game at Kilmarnock on Saturday.

The 25-year-old has upped his training, but United have opted not to risk him.

"It's a shame for everyone, first of all Lawrence," said Dundee United assistant Stevie Frail.

"It's not anything to do with the surface. He probably wouldn't have been involved even if it were a home game."

Scotland host Israel next Friday before travelling to face the Czech Republic three days later.

Shankland appeared in United's season opener with St Johnstone but has been absent since.

United are hopeful the striker will be available for their trip to face Rangers on 12 September.
