Salford City 1-1 Rotherham United (4-2 on pens): Ammies through after shootout
- Published
Salford City reached the Carabao Cup second round as they beat Championship side Rotherham United on penalties.
The hosts won 4-2 in a shootout as Vaclav Hladky saved Joe Mattock's spot kick to send them through.
Earlier, Ian Henderson had scored from the spot on his Salford debut after Millers keeper Jamal Blackman brought down Tom Elliott in the box.
However, Matt Crooks' header from a late Rotherham corner took it to penalties to give the Millers hope.
Victory for Graham Alexander's side mean they reach the second round for the first time in their history.
In their debut in the competition last season, after they were promoted to the English Football League in 2018-19, the Ammies were defeated 3-0 by Leeds United.
