AFC Wimbledon reach FA Cup second round beating Barrow 4-2 on penalties

AFC Wimbledon overcame a brave display from Barrow to beat the League Two club 4-2 on penalties following a goalless draw after extra time and book their place in the second round of the FA Cup.

The Dons kept their nerve in this delayed first-round tie, with star man Jack Rudoni sealing a dramatic victory after successful spot-kicks from Ryan Longman, Shane McLoughlin and Steve Seddon.

Barrow's were undone as Dior Angus had his side's first penalty saved by Nik Tzanev and Scott Quigley blazed over the bar before successful efforts from Josh Kay and Patrick Brough.

The game ended 0-0 after 120 minutes with both sides having chances to take the win in normal time.

League One Wimbledon wasted two chances in the first three minutes through Ollie Palmer and Will Nightingale before the Cumbrians were denied by the woodwork when Dimitri Sea hit a post.

Dons keeper Tzanev made a superb save from Angus in the closing moments of the second half.

Wimbledon had the better chances in extra time, with promising teenager Rudoni going close and Nightingale forcing Josh Lillis into a good save with a late swerving shot.

The match at Holker Street had been re-arranged from its scheduled date of Saturday, 7 November after Wimbledon returned several positive coronavirus tests.

The Dons will now host League Two Crawley in the second round on Sunday (13:30 GMT).
