Neither Oxford United nor Ipswich Town could find a way past each other in a goalless League One encounter.

Oxford came closest when James Henry saw a first-half header bounce back off the post from six yards out.

Ipswich goalkeeper David Cornell also made saves from Marcus McGuane and Henry before also blocking Matty Taylor's effort on the edge of his box.

Jon Nolan should have done better soon after for Ipswich when he fired a shot over the crossbar from 18 yards out.

Ipswich move up a place with the draw to fifth while Oxford stay 20th after a first clean sheet of the season.

The draw for Paul Lambert's side comes after back-to-back home defeats against Hull City and Charlton Athletic but Oxford are also without a win in their past three games.

They had the better of the chances in this game in which Ipswich only registered an effort on target in the first minute of stoppage time with an Oli Hawkins header.

Oxford captain Elliott Moore headed narrowly wide for the hosts from a Liam Kelly corner in the first half.

In the second half, Olamide Shodipo had a shot on target inside the penalty area deflected behind for a corner before Henry forced another smart block from Cornell with a right-foot drive.
