Manchester City came from behind to beat Gothenburg in Sweden in the first leg of their Women's Champions League last-32 tie.
The hosts went ahead in the second minute when Vilde Boe Risa pounced on a rebound and fired in from close range.
After hitting the post twice in quick succession, City levelled just before the break when Georgia Stanway fired in off the upright.
Sam Mewis headed home with 14 minutes left to clinch a deserved victory.
Gareth Taylor's side, who were knocked out in the last 16 of the competition last season, dominated the second half but were almost pegged back late on.
Filippa Angeldal shot narrowly wide with three minutes remaining and England right-back Lucy Bronze put in a crucial block to deny Pauline Hammarlund in stoppage time.
Swedish champions Gothenburg had not played a competitive match since 15 November but caused problems for the visitors in the early stages on their artificial pitch at Valhalla IP.
However, City grew into the game as Chloe Kelly and Janine Beckie hit the woodwork before Stanway equalised with her 50th goal for the club.
That trio continued to threaten as the visitors started the second half in charge, and US international Mewis headed in a cross from substitute Jess Park to make it 2-1.
The Women's Super League side came close to extending their lead when midfielder Mewis had a shot blocked, and they now hold an advantage heading into the home leg next Wednesday.
