Bristol City have signed former Leicester midfielder Matty James and agreed a new one-year contract with full-back Danny Simpson.

James, 29, has agreed a three-year deal following loan spells with Barnsley and Coventry City in 2020-21.

Both played under boss Nigel Pearson at Leicester and James said: "I understand what he's going to be looking for and what he wants to achieve."

The new deal for 34-year-old Simpson includes an option for a further year.

He moved to the Championship club on a short-term contract in March and played four games last season.

Simpson won the Premier League with Leicester in 2016 and has also won promotion from the Championship with Newcastle, Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers.

"I could see in those two months what the future could be for Bristol City," Simpson told the club website. , external

"I'm pleased that I can be a part of it from the start of pre-season and not towards the end of a season."
