Championship side Preston North End secured a place in the second round of the Carabao Cup with a comfortable victory at League Two Mansfield Town.

Both sides had good chances in the first half with Rhys Oates and Jordan Bowery going close for the Stags.

Scott Sinclair, who had earlier been denied by Nathan Bishop, put the visitors ahead when he dinked the Stags keeper from just inside the box.

Emil Riis Jakobsen's top-corner finish made it 2-0 before Sinclair converted Ben Whiteman's pass for his second.

It was a second goal of the season for Jakobsen who scored in Preston's opening-day 4-1 home defeat by Hull City.

The Stags did have chances in the second half, but Oates put a header wide and substitute Tyrese Sinclair saw his free-kick saved.

Mansfield and Preston met at the same stage last season with the Championship side winning 4-0 at Deepdale.
