Motherwell have completed the signing of Norwegian defender Sondre Solholm Johansen as Hearts' Jordan Roberts returns on loan until January.
Johansen, 26, has joined the club from Mjondalen on a three-year deal, subject to a work permit.
He moved to his former club in 2017 from Eliteserien rivals Stromsgodset.
Winger Roberts, 27, adds to Motherwell's attacking options after spending the second half of last season at Fir Park.
"We've watched a lot of him [Johansen] and been impressed with his defensive attributes, plus his technical ability is an added bonus," said Motherwell manager Graham Alexander.
"He's shown a great willingness to come here and we know he will enjoy his time at the club."
Roberts netted three goals in eight appearances in 2020-21, before injury prematurely curtailed his season.Signed by Hearts in 2020, the 27-year-old has also featured for Gillingham, Lincoln City, Ipswich Town, Crawley Town, Inverness CT and Aldershot.
"He had a really good spell with us last season and we've always wanted him to return if possible," added Alexander."We know the qualities he brings will help us and it's great to have him back with the team."
Alexander has now made 12 signings since the end of last season.
