Duane Holmes curled in his first goal of the season to give Huddersfield the lead against Hull City
Huddersfield moved into the top six in the Championship after a goal in each half saw off struggling Hull City.
Tom Lees bundled the Terriers into an early lead after a Danel Sinani corner caused chaos in the Tigers' box.
After twice going close in the second half, Duane Holmes fired in a beauty to make it 2-0.
Hull mustered little serious goal threat, with efforts from Keane Lewis-Potter and Mallik Wilks their best chances.
Huddersfield's fourth win in their last five home games moves Carlos Corberan's improving side into the play-off places, while a fourth away defeat for Hull keeps them just one point clear of the bottom three.
The Terriers, looking to record a third league win in a row over Hull for the first time since 1920, started brightly with Lees nearly opening the scoring after four minutes. Sorba Thomas, fresh from making his international debut with Wales, swung in a corner with Lees only denied by a instinctive block by Hull goalkeeper Matt Ingram.
But Ingram was exposed five minutes later when he unconvincingly punched at another Thomas corner and saw Lees nod the ball home from a couple of yards out at the far post.
Hull's highlight of the first half came from Lewis-Potter, whose terrific free-kick from 25 yards was matched by a brilliant tip over from Lee Nicholls.
The Tigers, without an away win since the opening day of the season, showed plenty of intent after the break but failed to muster a sustained threat as the game became more fractious.
Indeed, it was Huddersfield who seemed to manage the situation better with Ingram twice forced into saves from Holmes before Thomas mis-hit a Harry Toffolo cross when in a good position just inside the area.
But his finish on 73 minutes more than made amends as he curled a stunning effort into the top corner from 18 yards after Hull cleared another Thomas corner.
To sum up Hull's frustration, Wilks then dragged wide in injury time when well placed.
Huddersfield manager Carlos Corberan told BBC Radio Leeds:
"I knew Hull would demand a lot of energy for us to win the three points. They are a very energetic team and never give up. I am very pleased with our energy and our style of game. The second goal was very important because without it, it would've been much more of a challenge.
"The set-pieces are very important in defence and attack and we need to make the most of all three chances to score - open play, counter-attacks and set-pieces. Duane Holmes has the quality to combine his mentality as a midfielder with the finish of a striker - he has that level of finish."
Hull City manager Grant McCann told BBC Radio Humberside:
"I'm disappointed because we gave ourselves a mountain to climb. I thought we got into some really good areas but we haven't got on to any of our crosses and that's very disappointing. We have to be more ruthless at this level.
"The two goals - the first we should deal with and the second is a great finish but we should be getting to the ball quicker. We had some chances to get back into the game but just didn't take them."
