Jonson Clarke-Harris' late header rescued a point for Peterborough against Huddersfield Town in the Championship.

Darren Ferguson, taking charge of his 500th Posh game, introduced Clarke-Harris as a second-half substitute and was rewarded when the striker guided in Harrison Burrows' excellent cross.

Fifth-placed Huddersfield had taken the lead when Levi Colwill's looping header from a corner found Danny Ward at the far post and the forward poked in.

Posh had good chances to score before Ward's opener when Jack Taylor shot straight at Lee Nicholls following a scramble in the box and Sammie Szmodics could not connect cleanly with Siriki Dembele's low cross.

Ward also had a goal disallowed for offside in the first half when Duane Holmes' fierce 20-yard effort bounced off the crossbar and he tapped in the rebound.

A point was fully deserved by the hosts but they have still only kept one clean sheet this season and have the Championship's leakiest defence.

Ferguson, in his third spell as Peterborough boss, was without Clarke-Harris for four games in October after he was banned for historical social media posts.

The 27-year-old returned in their 3-0 defeat at Swansea on Saturday but this was a much-improved showing from Posh, who are six points above the drop zone in 20th.

Peterborough host high-flying Fulham on Saturday before the international break and Huddersfield visit freefalling Cardiff.

However, the Terriers may be without captain Jonathan Hogg who went off at half-time with an injury.

Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson:

"We had to gamble but I'm always happy to do that when 1-0 down at home.

"Harrison [Burrows] creates and scores goals which is why he's in the team and I thought Jono was very good when he came on. He was a focal point.

"We know that if we get balls into the box for him that he will score goals. He has been missing and was chomping at the bit so I'm very pleased for him."

Huddersfield boss Carlos Corberan:

"We suffered in the last minutes of the game when we did not play with enough maturity.

"The game was more physical in the second half and when Peterborough put their number nine [Jonson Clarke-Harris] on the pitch he was able to win aerial challenges and they could put more balls into the box.

"That is exactly what happened for their goal and we are now feeling frustration because we came here to try to win the three points but we only have one."
