FA Cup highlights: Morecambe 1-0 Newport County

Aaron Wildig scored with his first touch to send Morecambe into Monday's FA Cup second-round draw.

The former Cardiff City player came on as a second-half substitute and scored from close range.

It was the first encounter between the teams since the Shrimps beat The Exiles 1-0 in the 2020-21 League Two play-off at Wembley in May.

Morecambe again celebrated as veteran ex-Shrimp Kevin Ellison was denied several times late on.

It was Newport's first defeat under boss James Rowberry with the successor to Michael Flynn having seen his side go undefeated in League Two since his arrival.

Newport boss James Rowberry:

"I think we showed our quality, but goals change games. I think we had 16 or 17 shots to their maybe nine or 10 so we've probably got to take our chances, then their goalkeeper makes some terrific saves.

"There's a natural disappointment, but performance-wise we just didn't score and one moment in the game where we switched off in three or four different moments when they get the goal, that's the difference between League One and League two possibly."
