Matty James' first goal of the season earned the Robins a point
Hull City extended their unbeaten run to six matches but were denied a victory by Bristol City's stoppage-time equaliser.
Ryan Longman curled a fine shot past Robins goalkeeper Daniel Bentley and into the far corner to give the Tigers an early lead.
City were toothless before the break, but were rewarded for a good start to the second half when Antoine Semenyo drilled home after his initial shot hit the post.
George Honeyman tapped Hull ahead after Keane Lewis-Potter had been denied by Bentley's fine save, but Matty James fired in deep into added time from the edge of the box.
Having picked up just nine points for their first 16 matches of the season after promotion, Grant McCann's side have now earned 14 in an unbeaten run of six matches.
Good starts have been key to Hull's recent revival, and they scored first for the fifth time in six matches through Longman's second goal in his past three outings.
Longman almost added an identical second before the break, but fired just over, and Bentley made a great save to deny Mallik Wilks, while the Robins failed to force a save from home goalkeeper Nathan Baxter before the break.
The visitors picked up the pace in the second half and Andreas Wiemann pulled a shot wide after slipping when well placed before Semenyo got off the mark for the season with his first goal.
Tyler Smith glanced a header wide, meeting a cross from the influential Lewis-Potter, but Honeyman's strike looked to have consigned City to a fifth successive away defeat until James' last-gasp equaliser.
Hull remain 19th, four points above the bottom three, and a place below City who have lost only one of their past five.
Hull City boss Grant McCann told BBC Radio Humberside:
"It was a good response from us from conceding in the second half to get the second goal. We're absolutely gutted to concede so late in the game. It almost feels like a defeat.
"But we have to understand where we are. It's been a good response from the group over the last six games, but we are just disappointed with that goal right at the death.
"It's a good finish from Matty James, you have to give him credit, but we should do better.
"I don't think there was much in the game all afternoon. I thought we had some good passages of play throughout the game and they had some good passages of play."
Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson told BBC Radio Bristol:
"It was a poor game - two sides who really struggled to get the quality going, and we were wasteful.
"I've been critical by saying we lose games too readily, and at least we got something out of it, but some of our decision-making and some of our quality at times let us down. It was a frustrating afternoon.
"The second goal we conceded is a goal that's so avoidable and it's frustrating.
"We must be a very difficult side to watch for our fans. We've scored two goals away from home again and ended up with a point, so we're not firing on all cylinders."
