Aston Villa 0-1 Everton: Aurora Galli scores first Toffees goal
- Published
Aurora Galli scored her first Everton goal as they ended a run of four consecutive Women's Super League defeats with victory at Aston Villa.
Villa had looked in control for most of the game in a match of limited chances.
But Hanna Bennison's stunning cross found Italy midfielder Galli to give Everton a first WSL win since they sacked manager Jean-Luc Vasseur.
It was Villa's ninth successive home defeat in all competitions - a run in which they have conceded 19 goals.
Villa had one of the only opportunities in the game to open the scoring when Ramona Petzelberger latched on to a Remi Allen cross but the effort was saved by Sandy MacIver.
The two sides are separated by just two points in the league, with Villa sitting ninth with 16 points and Everton behind in 10th.
The result capped a successful week for the Toffees, who are yet to appoint a replacement manager, with Chris Roberts and Claire Ditchburn in interim charge, guiding them to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Sunday with victory over Charlton.
Everton players had no sponsor on their kits after suspending commercial sponsorship arrangements with Russian companies, including the women's shirt sponsor Megafone.
