Tony Watt: Dundee United move completed for Premiership top scorer
- Published
Scottish Premiership top scorer Tony Watt has joined Dundee United from Motherwell for an undisclosed fee.
Striker Watt, 28, had agreed a pre-contract summer move to United.
The Tangerines were hopeful of expediting the move after selling Kerr Smith to Aston Villa.
"We have agreed a fee this morning with Dundee United for Tony, so at some point today Tony will be a Dundee United player," said Motherwell manager Graham Alexander on Monday.
Watt is currently the top-flight's leading scorer with nine goals, leading to calls for him to be considered by Steve Clarke for a recall to the Scotland squad.
Motherwell boss Alexander added: "We knew of the potential situation in the summer, the way it was going, and we decided on a course of action which we would be content with."
Initially signed in 2020, Watt went on to score 19 goals in 70 matches for Motherwell, with performances this season catching the attention of clubs both north and south of the border.
