Wayne Hatswell has been reunited with Walsall manager Michael Flynn after leaving his role as Newport County's assistant manager.

Former Newport boss Flynn was appointed head coach of Walsall on 15 February on a contract until 2024.

Hatswell spent four-and-a-half years as Flynn's assistant in south Wales, and will fill a similar role at Walsall.

"I'm really excited, I'm really pleased and looking forward to working with Michael again," said Hatswell.

"It's been a mad 48 hours because I was in the dugout for Newport on Saturday.

"Everyone knows what we did at Newport for a good four years, that was a big draw for me.

"We know how each other work and he wanted me to come in and that's what's happened."

A former Newport player, Hatswell joined the coaching set up in 2013 and forged a successful partnership with Flynn in 2017.

He had stayed on at Rodney Parade after James Rowberry was named Flynn's successor in October 2021,

"Wayne expressed a strong desire to leave the club to pursue a new opportunity," said a Newport statement.

"The club would like to place on record its thanks to Wayne for all his efforts and hard work over the years."
