Preston North End moved into round two of the Carabao Cup as Huddersfield's poor start to the season continued.
Having lost their first two league games, Danny Schofield's Terriers were hammered at the John Smith's Stadium.
On-loan Tottenham striker Troy Parrott got his first for North End before midfielder Ali McCann scored twice as Ryan Lowe's side went three up inside 30 minutes.
Brad Potts added a fourth before Jordan Rhodes scored a consolation for Huddersfield.
After goalless draws in both their opening league games with Wigan Athletic and Hull City, Preston only needed six minutes to score their first goal of the campaign.
Manager Lowe opted for six changes but he kept Republic of Ireland man Parrott in the team and the 20-year-old pounced, after Lee Nicholls could only parry Ryan Ledson's effort.
Parrott was denied a second shortly after by Nicholls, before Potts was unlucky to hit the woodwork, but the visitors continued to dominate.
On-loan Manchester United defender Alvaro Fernandez was making his first start for North End and had a big influence, setting up McCann for both of his goals.
The 19-year-old Spaniard went off at the break but Potts made it four when he intercepted a poor ball, drove forward and found the bottom corner.
Rhodes broke the offside trap to score his first of the season, but it was another difficult game for the side that lost the Championship play-off final 72 days ago.
