Che Adams scored twice as Southampton won away from home

Che Adams scored twice as Southampton progressed to the third round of the Carabao Cup with a comfortable win against League One Cambridge United.

The Premier League side were the dominant team throughout and Scotland striker Adams' goals before and after half-time ensured no slip-up.

Dominic Ballard then made it three in the final minutes of the game.

Ralph Hasenhuttl made nine changes from the side that beat Leicester City at the weekend but Saints were too strong.

Adams came close to putting the visitors in front in only the third minute with a well-taken effort from a close angle but his goal was ruled out for a handball in the build-up.

It didn't take long for him to net the opener, though, as he tapped home a cross from 18-year-old debutant Lewis Payne.

The 26-year-old forward claimed his second when he diverted a rebound into the net after Oriol Romeu's shot was parried out by Cambridge keeper Will Mannion.
