Newport kept up their Carabao Cup giant-killing by beating Portsmouth.

Pompey took an early lead on the counter when Tom Lowery set Ronan Curtis free from his own half to slot past Joe Day into the bottom corner.

Newport hit back through Will Evans after a give-and-go with Chanka Zimba, but Curtis restored the lead when he rattled home a half-cleared cross.

Aaron Wildig made it 2-2 with a flicked header, before Evans turned provider for James Waite's winner for Newport.

James Rowberry's League Two side had knocked out Championship Luton Town in the first round and have now taken League One Portsmouth's scalp to reach the third round.

Newport County manager James Rowberry said: "I'm lost for words for a change, I thought the players were outstanding, they were brilliant and I can't speak well enough of them again.

"This group is so resilient and it's something that we've really worked on in this pre-season, with the work we do behind the scenes around about the culture.

"We talk about resilience a lot and going through adversity. You're going to get that at some points and we sure do that in games a lot, and we get back from it."
